What could go wrong?
New neighbors may not like a wastewater plant being expanded or built
Background
SJRAs strategic plan is considering consolidating wastewater operation at three locations. The net result of this is to increase odor and discharges at the consolidated location. One of the benefits of a master planned community is certainty of the neighborhood, but in this case a community could have major changes without a vote by the residents.
What could go wrong?
Relocation of WWTP1 may not eliminate odors which are coming from the gathering system
Background
New neighbors to the WWTP1 location (i.e. Lakeside Cove) have been complaining of the wastewater odor in the area, and have been lobbying state and local politicians for action. However, one likely source of the odor is the pipes collecting wastewater from their homes, which wouldn't change if WWTP1 were relocated. We could spend millions and not eliminate the problem.
