What could go wrong?
Lack of oversight and transparency could result in environmental damage, wasteful spending and fewer benefits
Background
In 2021 6 MUDs committed to a Bear Branch drainage project that MUD 67 would sponsor. That is, MUD 67 will fund the majority of the project (nearly 7 million) through a bond sale and the others will contribute approximately a million a piece. (Other MUDs include 7, 60, METRO, 46 and 47). The project has been fully funded but no engineering has been done. Only MUD 67 has oversight over the project. MUD 67 then could make decisions that benefit them to the detriment of others. There should be oversight by ALL the funding MUDs so they know their money is being spent wisely and also to provide input in how the project is being handled.
What could go wrong?
Major repair of this dam is NOT including any upgrades to reduce downstream flooding.
Background
The dam outfall is being rebuilt and could be modified to increase the volume of retention which would provide additional storage during a flood. This would reduce downstream flooding. But that's not happening.
